Fishing and rafting downstream Khamsara river

From Baikal Lake through the Eastern Sayan downstream Khamsara river to the very center of Asia is exactly what is considered to be a TransSayan trip. This trip is for true travelers and lovers of wild nature, magnificent mountains, rafting and fishing. The trip starts from railway station Sluydanka which is situated on the bank of Baikal Lake. The end point of the trip is Kyzyl which is the capital of Tyva.

Usually when there is a talk of the Sayans one talks of two separate mountain systems: Eastern and Western Sayans. These mountain ridges were named after the Turkic tribe called Sayany which inhabited the upper basis of Yenisei and Oka. This tribe mixed with other Turkic tribes and formed a part of Tuvinian people.

Mountain system of Western Sayans is situated in the south of Siberia stretching from the upper river of Small Abakan in the West till Eastern Sayans in the East. Western Sayans is bounded by Minusinskaya kettle from the North and by Tuvinskaya kettle from the South. Eastern Sayans are behind Western Sayans and stretching till Baikal Lake. To be more exact, the Sayans mountain ridges are situated between 91° and 111° of eastern latitude.

Sayans ridges have different shapes. Some of Sayans ridges have very distinct trait of Alpine forms while other ridges are tablelands with numerous rivers. However the most part of Sayans mountain ridges have saddle-point passes. Such passes can be run by horses carrying a rider and heavy luggage. This unique trait of Sayans allows elaborating different routs in Sayans.

Sayans rivers are of great interest to the tourists. Sayans rivers are characterized by high water transparency because the rivers are fed by rains and melted snow. Sayans are mostly uninhabited areas with wild mountains and lots of fish in rivers. Sayans water routs are very different. There are routs of 3rd degree of complexity as well as the routs of 5th of 6th degree of complexity for sophisticated tourists.

While having a look at Sayans map one can see the dominance of blue color in Todjinskaya kettle - the interfluve of Khamsara and Biy-Khem rivers. Between the hills covered by ancient taiga there are Noion-Khol, Todja (Azas), Many-Khol and Kadysh-Khol lakes. These lakes are very picturesque and there are a lot of fish in them.

Taiga and mountain ridges, variety of mountain springs, rivers, waterfalls and lakes do astonish by its unique beauty and attract to these places the lovers of active rest.
